With coronavirus cases spreading in the North of England, and tighter restrictions expected next week, you may be more likely to be in a lock down situation or self isolating. And while this can be a challenging time, we have these tips that might help.

Helpful tips for students who are self isolating

Self isolating is not a pleasant experience, especially when you are away from home. But these are our tips to help you get through this tough time:

  • Stay in touch- keep in touch with family and friends as much as possible. Even though you wont be able to go out to visit them, you can still communicate digitally, and this can help bring some normality and comfort to your daily routine.
  • Keep clean- keeping the environment you are in clean and tidy is not just a good way to pass the time. It can also be great for your mental health too. Looking around a dirty kitchen, or an untidy bedroom can make you feel more miserable and unhappy and this can really ring you down when stuck in self isolation. Take some time each day to tidy up and clean your space.
  • Be kind- isolating with flatmates or housemates, especially ones you have just met can be difficult. Try and stay kind and considerate to each other. Self isolating in an environment with a hostile feel will make the whole experience worse for everyone involved.
  • Be productive- have a uni project to work on or an assignment to start? Why not use this time to get ahead? Read those textbooks and try and stay as active as possible in your uni work. Not only will this help you feel more positive and accomplished at the end of each day, but it’ll help you succeed at your course too.
